A long tradition of quality

For more than 30 years, the name Hornung has been synonymous with supreme quality, precision and perfection. At its headquarters in the Swabian town of Urbach, the family-run, medium-sized company manufactures and processes steel and carbide products using traditional methods. And its customers are both local and international – from small craft producers to global corporations active on the international stage.

A great number of market leaders from diverse industries such as automotive, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and medical technology have been among Hornung GmbH’s satisfied customers for many years.

Hornung GmbH relies on its extensive experience, motivated employees, substantial investment in a fleet of modern machine tools, quality assurance systems and computerised operational organisation to meet its high quality goals. As a forward-looking company, Hornung GmbH also places great importance on sustainable business development and continuous investment in new technologies.

Reflections on quality

Our philosophy at Hornung GmbH corresponds best with the ‘Reflections on quality’ by English social reformer John Ruskin:

There is hardly anything in the world
that some man cannot make a little worse
and sell a little cheaper.

It is unwise to pay too much,
but it’s worse
to pay too little.
When you pay too much,
you lose a little money –
that’s all.

When you pay too little,
you sometimes lose everything,
because the thing you bought is incapable of
doing the thing it was bought to do.

The common law of business balance prohibits
paying a little and getting a lot – it can’t be done.
If you deal with the lowest bidder,
it is well to add something
for the risk you run.

And if you do that
you will have enough
to pay for something better.

John Ruskin (1819–1900)
